Low Hatch Curb Causing Water Intrusion on Flat Roof in Skokie – Here’s How We Fixed It

A low hatch curb on a flat roof can be a major cause of water intrusion, leading to potential interior damage and costly repairs. At Anchor Point Roofing, we recently addressed this issue for a property in Skokie, ensuring long-term protection and durability.

The Problem: Low Hatch Curb & Water Intrusion

The existing roof hatch curb was only a few inches high, making it more vulnerable to water pooling and seepage, especially during heavy rain. Without proper height, water can easily infiltrate the roof system, leading to leaks, mold growth, and structural damage.

Our Solution: Raising the Hatch Curb for Better Protection

To resolve the issue, we:

✅ Provided and installed new framing to increase the hatch curb height to 8 inches from the surface of the membrane.

✅ Installed new modified bitumen flashing around the perimeter of the new wood framing to ensure a watertight seal.

✅ Applied aluminum coating as a final touch for added durability and weather resistance.

By increasing the hatch curb height and reinforcing it with high-quality materials, we helped prevent future water intrusion and extended the roof’s lifespan.
